Day #103

This morning with Karen I went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Some facts about Lone Pine:
- It's the world's first and largest koala sanctuary, with over 130 koalas;
- Was founded in 1927;
- The sanctuary began with two koalas called Jack and Jill;
- It's located in Brisbane; 
- The sanctuary is one of the very few sanctuaries in the world where visitors are allowed to hold koalas for a fee - in New South Wales, for example, they just passed a law that forbids you to cuddle one;
- Famous visitors of the sanctuary include Pope John Paul, Eric Clapton, Jackie Chan, Cher, Janet Jackson, Carey Mulligan, Hayden Panettiere, Matchbox 20, Yellowcard, Taylor Swift.

It was a lovely day. The weather has cooled down a lot this past weekend, but the sun is still hot and warm. 
In Lone Pine we were able to see plenty other animals than just koalas. Parrots, cockatoos - talking cockatoos, precisely. I was so startled when it greeted me 'Hello!' - platypuses, wombats, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, dingoes and huge lizards. It was a wonderful experience! Especially since the kangaroos and wallabies are roaming free in a reserve, where you can go up to them and pat them, feed them with the food you can buy at the store close-by and yes, take plenty of pictures as well!

 This evening I had to work at the restaurant. One family I waited two weeks ago or something came back tonight and when they saw me they told me the three kids had been hoping to see me since I wasn't there last week. How cute is that? On a side note, those three kids are among the most polite little creatures I've ever met. No request comes out of their mouth without a 'please' or a 'thank you'. Lovely!

Questa mattina con Karen sono andata al Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Alcune informazioni su Lone Pine:
- è il rifugio per koala più vecchio e più grande al mondo, con più di 130 koala;
- è stato fondato nel 1927;
- il rifugio è cominciato con due koala chiamati Jack e Jill;
- è a Brisbane, tipo a 15 minuti dal centro città;
- il rifugio è uno dei pochi al mondo dove i visitatori hanno il permesso di tenere in braccio un koala pagando una tassa - foto compresa! Nel New South Wales, per esempio, hanno appena passato una legge che proibisce di prendere tra le braccia un koala;
- tra i visitatori famosi di Lone Pine, Papa Giovanni Paolo II, Eric Clapton, Jackie Chan, Cher, Janet Jackson, Carey Mulligan, Hayden Panettiere, i Matchbox 20, gli Yellowcard e Taylor Swift.

È stata una bellissima giornata. La temperatura è calata draasticamente questo weekend, ma al sole si sta proprio bene.
A Lone Pine abbiamo visto un sacco di altri animali oltre che ai koala. Pappagalli, cacatua - parlanti per la precisione, vi lascio immaginare lo shock quando mi sono sentita rivolgere dal pappagalo un 'Hello!' - ornitorinchi, echidna, vombati, canguri, wallaby, emu, dingo e lucertole giganti.
È stata un'esperienza fantastica! Soprattutto perché canguri e wallaby erano lasciati liberi in uno spiazzo grandissimo e la gente poteva andargli vicino ad accarezzarli, dargli il cibo comprato nello shop lì vicino e naturalmente fare foto!

Questa sera ho lavorato al ristorante. Una famiglia che avevo servito più di due settimane fa è tornata a cenare da noi e i genitori mi hanno detto che i bambini speravano proprio di vedermi questa sera dato che la scorsa settimana non ero in servizio. Che cosa carina non è? Sempre riguardo a questi bimbi, credo che siano tra i più educati che abbia mai incontrato! Non fanno nessuna richiesta che non abbia 'Per favore' e 'Grazie' nella frase!! Incredibile. E tenerissimo!
