Day #28

I just received the money my mom trasfered last friday on my australian account and I can't tell you how sweet was the wave of relief washing over me.
I know money is not everything in the world, but try to pay your rent with a smile and then get back to me. This way I won't have to beg or ask favours to my flatmates and friends because I still have no income to pay my weekly rent, which is awesome. if you ask me. I hate being too much of a burden and everybody has already been so supportive and helpful that I can't stand asking for more.

Of course this doesn't mean in any way that I'll stop looking for a job. As a matter of fact, I am to walk down Racecourse Rd and hand my CV over to every shop/restaurant/café open this afternoon.

Yesterday night, Claire and I watched Disney Pixar's Brave and we laughed so much ahaha the triplets were hilarious!
Merida totally looks like our neighbour Martina, in my opinion: they have the same flaming red hair and clear eyes.
When I found out that Mumford and Sons wrote a song for the score I went straight to YouTube to check it out and it is indeed one of my favourites in their album Babel. In the movie it is sung by British singer Birdy, though, but it is no less beautiful. They got bagpipes as well!!

Day #27

I went to New Farm this morning to drop my CV at a friend's ice-cream shop, so that yet another friend could come and pick it up to pass it to a third friend could hand it to the hotel he works at, given that they are looking for Front Office staff. By ''friend'' I mean of course, ''friend of Sabrina'' - all three of them. She came along too and I'd better learn fast to bake cakes so that I can start to pay back.

In the afternoon I sent some more CVs on the Internet, but tried a different approach when asked for a cover letter. Let's say I - kind of - adopted the style I use on here, which is actually nothing more than the way I think and speak daily. So, I left behind the formal, stiff me I usually reserve for when I give a damn and started screwing around with words and witty jokes. I mean, since I'm getting no job anyway, changing a little bit the way I present myself can only do me good, ain't it?

Day #26

In the name of the long established tradition of Lazy Sundays, I did close to nothing today.
I felt creative, so I took the lineart by burdge-bug and the background by Initio from DeviantArt, coloured and modified it on Gimp - which is like photoshop for cheap people.
Paolo made fun of me all day long because I was colouring. He says I'm a baby girl through and through and together with Sabri and Claire, he started calling me Gelsomina (Jasmine). WTH?

In the afternoon, Karen took me to DFO, these huge arcade with plenty of shops always on sales. She found some 'Staff Needed' signs and thought I might be desperate enough. Again, I gave my CVs to different stores, let's see if any of them calls me back.

Anyway, this is not the final product, I'll probably finish it next Lazy Sunday. For those of you who don't know who these people are, where have you been?
Katniss and Peeta, from The Hunger Games belong to Suzanne Collins
Lineart belongs to burdge-bug on DeviantArt
Background belongs to Initio on DeviantArt

Day #25

Something funny happened today. It wouldn't have happened if I had read the signs. I should have read the signs.

The signs:
- a friend of mine telling me an indie rock band would have been in Brisbane these days.
- young people dressed up funny, wrapped in plastic ponchos to protect themselves from the rain, all marching in the same direction, like moth going towards the light. They looked more like jellyfish, though, with the wind blowing under their plastic capes and the water all over.
- an actual luminous sign that indicated a musical event not too far from where I live.

Now, what happened is that, when setting on my way home from South Bank, where I had been handing out CVs under the pouring rain, I found myself on the bus platform together with a huge group of young people buzzing around, looking weird, possibly drunk, all waiting for the buses to arrive. As I saw mine coming my way I headed towards it, only to realize that all the crazy people on the platform were following me. Creepy right? They weren't following me, of course, but I still had no idea where they were heading to and they kind of scared me. The bus was packed and inevitably one guy sat next to me. ''Are you taking this bus to go to the future?'' he asked me. Mind, I was wearing my earplugs listening to Mumford & Sons, I did not want to speak to the weirdos in the bus and as soon as he asked me about going to the future I thought 'Man, this guy is so freaking high he thinks he's in Back to the Future'. I was even more scared by then and answered him with a sharp no, then put my earplugs back on and dug for my book in my bag. He exchanged some words with his friends and then moved to another seat.

The rest of the ride was even weirder. Another guy came sitting next to me, but he did not attempt to start a conversation, which I appreciated; but the choirs in the back of the bus, the singing and whistling and shouting, they kind of sent shivers down my spine. As the plastic cloaked people didn't seem to get off the bus, I did one plus one and figured out they might be headed to the same place the jellyfish were going. Shoot! That'd be my bus stop, I realized. I was right, and I deliberatly chose a side road to go back home - I'd already had enough.

Once home, Sabrina confirmed me that a music festival called - wait for it - Future was going on in the park at the top of Nudgee Rd. That was when the guy's question on the bus got sense! He asked me whether I was going to the concert too! ahah He probably got offended I said I wasn't going and decided to change seat because I might spoil his good mood. Had I known better, I might have engaged him in a conversation about how lucky he was and how jealous I was, how I had just got to Brisbane and wouldn't have had enough money for the ticket anyway.
Oh, well, tomorrow I'll check what is going on in Brisbane before going out or talking to strangers on the bus.

Oggi è successo qualcosa di assurdo. Naturalmente nulla sarebbe capitato se avessi letto i segnali. Avrei dovuto leggere i segnali.

I segnali:

Ne avevo fin sopra i capelli.

Day #24

Man, we're already in March. And I'm still looking for a job.
Today I went around Hamilton handing out more CVs. They seemed kind of desperate for somebody to help them with the coffees at the French pâtisserie on the corner between Racecourse Rd and Beatrice Ter, but I guess I'll know something about it in the next few days. It'd be good for me, I'll have a chance to practice my French while making some money while cutting down on the transports at the same time. As always, I'll keep you updated.

Sabri and I baked a cake today - that is to day, I watched her bake it and occasionally passed her an ingredient or a tool.

Now, I'm going to keep reading The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. Will let you know how I like it.

Mamma mia! Siamo già a marzo. E io ancora non ho un lavoro. Cheppalle.
Adesso vado a leggere Il Seggio Vacante di J.K. Rowling. Vi farò sapere com'è.

Day #23

I don't know what's happening to me: I always wake up early in the morning even though I have nothing important to do and then feel terribly sleepy in the evening.. Used to be the other way round. Maybe it's all the coffee I'm getting throughout the day. You know, keeps me going till I sit on the bed.

Oh well, today I had some of Enzo's bucatini with plain tomato sauce and man, were they awesome! I might have been really hungry, though.
Then headed downtown together with Claire and Sabri to hand out some more CVs. I actually walked on a different route this time, hopefully that'll work out better.

Karen invited me over for dinner tonight. I brought Ashlee my copy of The Fault in Our Stars - spreading the love, you know. I hope she'll like it. Tony made us fried rice: it was delicious!

Day #22

I apologize for writing close to nothing today, but I'll drop dead asleep on the bed any minute now. It has been such a long day!
I was ready to write something bitter about Queensland, on the line of  'Sunshine State my ass', since the weather forecast said it'd be raining, but it turned out it was indeed sunny and nice. Sometimes I do love to be wrong.

I had a really nice day at the market at Enzo's pasta stand. Got to meet more people and chit chat with half Brisbane. Enzo and my flatmates are starting to realize what a jabber mouth I am, but I'm sure they kind of find it fun. Oh God, ''sure'' is a little pretencious, but I hope they have fun. Otherwise I'll be kicked out twice as fast as expected!

Something funny happened today as I was working: I usually greet and smile to people passing by - in order to get new customers or just out of politeness if they are looking my way. So, when this guy passed close to the stend I smiled and said 'Good afternoon, how are you doing?', he kept walking as he smiled back and answered me and nearly bumped into a lamp pole! Hilarious! I mean, I warned him in time, but still, it was good fun.
