Day #207

I'm waiting for the washing machine to finish. Tomorrow here in Australia we celebrate Father's Day and at the restaurant is going to be Doomsday. Kyle and Manu (Emmanuel, the French guy) are starting at 8am and I'll join them at 9am. I know it's not too early, but I like to have my time and don't rush it so I'll probably wake up around 7 anyway. I usually start getting ready two hours before my shift begins, so that if I have some spare time I can read, eat or take a short nap.

Tonight we were busy but with the three of us on the floor and Manu to help us we managed all right more or less. It didn't feel like a Saturday to me, though. Probably because, once again, I had the whole morning and biggest part of the afternoon off.
I also told Davina officially that my last working day is going to be Sep the 20th. As Loretta, the owner of the vineyard I'll be wwoofing at, answered to my email and told me I could start that week, this morning I booked my flight and train ticket as well as the hostel for the night of the 21st, as I mentioned I would do a couple of days ago.

I also got my taxes back today, you may remember I lodged my tax return a couple of weeks ago. Nice. Three hundred bucks on my account, just like that!

Sto aspettando che la lavatrice finisca il ciclo. Domani qui in Australia si festeggia Father's Day - tipo festa del papà, ma ovviamente scollegata a San Giuseppe - il ristorante sarà pienissimo, quindi per noi sarà più che altro il giorno del giudizio piuttosto che quello dei papà! Kyle e Manu (Emmanuel, il ragazzo francese) cominciano alle 8 e io li raggiungerò alle 9. So che non è prestissimo, ma mi piace prendermela con comodo e avere tempo extra, quindi credo mi sveglierò intorno alle 7. Di solito comincio a prepararmi due ore prima del mio turno, così che se mi avanza del tempo posso leggere, mangiare o fare un sonnellino.

Questa sera c'era ressa al ristorante, ma con noi tre camerieri in sala e Manu ad aiutarci, ce la siamo cavata bene o male. Non mi sembra che sia sabato però! Forse perché ancora una volta ho avuto l'intera mattinata e gran parte del pomeriggio liberi.
Ho anche comunicato ufficialmente a Davina che il mio ultimo giorno lavorativo sarà il 20 settembre. Dato che Loretta, la proprietaria della vigna dove andrò a fare wwoofing, ha risposto alla mia mail dicendomi che potevo benissimo cominciare da quella settimana in poi, questa mattina ho comprato il biglietto aereo e del treno e anche prenotato l'ostello per la notte del 21, come ho detto avrei fatto qualche giorno fa.

Oggi ho anche ricevuto indietro le tasse che ho pagato per i primi 4 mesi di lavoro alla trattoria. Vi ricordate che avevo compilato la domanda del rimborso qualche settimana fa? Fantastico in ogni caso, trecento dollari sul conto, così! Da un giorno all'altro e solo per aver compilato qualche carta!

Day #206

Does anybody feel like writing instead of me? It's 20 past midnight and I am kind of feeling the tiredness of the day upon me.

This morning I took my time to have breakfast and do some chores, but then I spent most of my time reading - I have started A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. I sit in the shades in our backyard and it feels as if I am on holiday! Awesome.

Tonight at the restaurant it was quiet. Mr. Sheperd and his wife came to the restaurant and as I told him I'm about to leave to New South Wales, he said I should call him by his first name for the next couple of weeks. WOW! Don't know how you feel about it, but if you only knew him, you'd know that this is a BIG deal!!!

ps. Yesterday I had the best night out ever! Show was incredible, the actors were amazing and I was completely blown away by the adaptation and acting! Night got even cooler when Nathanael, who's the Art Editor for one of the State papers, introduced me to the cast and invited me to join them for drinks after the show! I got to talk to pretty much everybody who was on stage that night and you might well imagine how excited I was! A fangirl through and through! I even got them to sign my program!!! And they were so nice, and humble and down to Earth and really really nice.

C'è nessuno che vuole scrivere al posto mio stasera? È la una meno venti e comincio a sentire addosso la stanchezza della giornata.
Questa mattina mi sono presa comodamente il mio tempo per fare la colazione e sbrigare piccole faccende, ma poi ho passato la maggior parte del giorno leggendo - ho cominciato Racconto di Due Città di Charles Dickens. È fantastico: mi siedo fuori in giardino all'ombra e mi sembra quasi di essere in vacanza! Perfetto.

Questa sera al ristorante non c'è stata per nulla ressa, anzi, direi che è stato piuttosto quieto. Mr. Sheperd e sua moglie sono venuti a mangiare e quando gli ho informati della mia imminente partenza per il New South Wales, il signor Sheperd ha insistito lo chiamassi per nome per questo ultimo paio di settimane. WOW! Non so cosa ne pensate voi, ma se conosceste il tipo, sareste sorpresissimi e meravigliati pure voi!!!

ps. Ieri sera è stata la serata migliore che ho mai passato da quando sono a Brisbane! Lo spettacolo è stato incredibile, gli attori erano bravissimi e io mi sono completamente innamorata dell'adattamento e dalla loro interpretazione! La serata si è fatta persino meglio, quando Nathanael - che è Art Editor per questa testata parecchio famosa nel Queensland - mi ha presentato al cast dopo lo spettacolo, non solo!, mi ha anche invitato a bere drinks con loro!!! Sono riuscita a parlare più o meno con tutti quelli che erano sul palcoscenico quella sera e potete benissimo immaginare quanto fossi emozionata! Non stavo quasi più nella pelle!! Una fangirl in tutto e per tutto!! Mi sono anche fatta autografare il programma dello spettacolo! E gli attori erano così simpatici e disponibili, e umili, e modesti!!!

Day #205

Nathanael is coming to pick me up in less than half an hour. We're going to the QPAC Theatre in Southbank to watch Tequila Mockingbird, the transposition of To Kill a Mockingbird in an Australian context. I'm so looking forward to it!!! :D

 Nathanael viene a prendermi in meno di mezzora. Andiamo al QPAC Theatre in Southbank a vedere Tequila Mockingbird, una trasposizione de Il Buio Oltre la Siepe in un contesto australiano. Non vedo l'ora!! :D

Day #204

Had a really nice day at the markets today! I do love spending my time there and today it was even better than usual because I was earning money doing one of the things I like best: being nice to people. :D

Enzo, somehow, got me some gelato, eggplant, zucchini, mango, macarons and pasta for free. I have food for at least a week! AWESOME. I love food.

So, I don't know whether you are interested or not, but a couple of days ago, filming started for this movie, based on one of my favourite books written by one of my favourite authors, called The Fault in Our Stars. Said author is also a vlogger on YouTube, a tumbler, has a Twitter and a Facebook page where he keeps his readers up to date on what's happening on set with pictures, videos and blog entries. Saying I'm freaking out whenever there's a new update is an understatement: I'm SO excited for this movie I can't even.

Ho passato davvero una bellissima giornata al mercato oggi! Mi piace l'aria che si respira tra le bancarelle e oggi era anche meglio del solito perché ero persino pagata per fare quello che mi piace: essere gentile con la gente. :D
Enzo, in qualche modo, prima della fine della giornata è riuscito a recuperarmi gratis del gelato, una melanzana, delle zucchine, un mango, dei macarons e della pasta. Ho cibo per almeno una settimana! EVVIVAAAAA!!! Amo il cibo.

Okay, non so quanto siate informati a riguardo o quanto vi interessi, ma qualche giorno fa hanno cominciato le riprese di questo film, tratto da uno dei miei libri preferiti, scritto da uno dei miei autori preferiti, chiamato Colpa delle Stelle. Il suddetto autore è anche un vlogger su YouTube, un tumbler, ha un profilo Twitter e una pagina ufficiale di Facebook dove aggiorna i suoi lettori con foto, video e blog posts sulle sue giornate sul set cinematografico. Ora, dire che vado fuori di testa ogni volta che esce un nuovo aggiornamento è un eufemismo: sono STRA eccitata per questo film!!!

Day #203

Geesh, tomorrow I have to wake up at the break of dawn to go work at the markets in Queen St Mall, so the following will be a very short and quick post.

Today was fine.

Okay, just kidding.. It'll be a little bit longer than that.
Yesterday I asked Marco for the contact number of the people with whom he did his three months of woofing [quick reminder. woofing : farms = au-pair : nanny] and today I called Loretta. She has not a single drop of italian blood in her veins, despite her name. She and her husband are owners of a vineyard in Orange, New South Wales. Marco said he had a great time there and learnt a lot. 

I just spoke to her over the phone, but she sounds really nice. We agreed I could start on September 23rd. What will happen then is that Sep 20th is going to be my last working day at the Trattoria - which is fair if you consider I was first tried there on March 19th; on the 21st I will fly to Sydney in the evening - cheapest flight - and stay overnight at the same hostel as last time; on the 22nd I will catch a train to Orange - some five hours Westward - and hopefully by the following day I'll be well rested and ready for the new adventure.

Oh mamma.. domani devo svegliarmi all'alba per andare a lavorare al mercato in Queen Street Mall, quindi il post di oggi sarà breve e conciso.

Oggi è andata bene.

Okay, meno breve e conciso di ciò.
Ieri ho chiesto a Marco il numero della farm presso la quale ha fatto tre mesi di woofing [woofing : lavoro nelle farm = au-pair : baby sitter pagata Ndr.] e oggi ho chiamato Loretta. Non fatevi ingannare, neanche una goccia di sangue italiano scorre nelle sue vene, nonostante il nome. Lei e il marito sono proprietari di una vigna in questa cittadina chiamata Orange, nel New South Wales. Marco ha detto che per lui è stata un'esperienza incredibile e che ha imparato un sacco!
Ci ho solo parlato al telefono, ma sembra simpatica. Ci siamo messe d'accordo perché io cominci a lavorare da loro il 23 settembre. Quindi quello che succederà, più o meno, è questo: il 20 settembre sarà il mio ultimo giorno di lavoro alla Trattoria; il 21 sera prenderò un aereo per Sydney - a quell'orario costa meno - e mi fermerò nello stesso ostello dove ho soggiornato l'ultima volta; il 22 lo passerò in treno - il viaggio mi dicono duri 5 ore - diretta a Nord-Ovest e, se tutto va bene, per il giorno successivo sarò fresca e riposata, pronta per la nuova avventura.

Day #202

As any other Monday, today it was my turn to clean the unit and that's what I did in the morning.

In the early afternoon I headed to the movies to watch The Mortal Instruments - City of Bones. I enjoyed the book which is based on and wanted to check it out. It wasn't too bad till the last 20 minutes when they tried to follow the book but ended changing more than what they saved.. Oh well.. guess you can't have it all, can you? I was really happy, though, they kept some of the best quotes!

I had dinner with Paolo, Marco and Alberto and later we were joined by Sabri, who came back from work, Luca, yet-the-umpteenth-Claire (who's not Italian) with yet-another-Luca and their son Antonio. Tomorrow is Antonio's first birthday and as Paolo was Luca's best man and Antonio's godfather, they came to the unit to celebrate.

Tonight I finally bought my ticket to New Zealand! I'm leaving on January 13th from Melbourne. I also had a look into moving around NZ and think I will book my flights tomorrow... 

Come ogni altro lunedì, oggi mi è toccato pulire l'appartamento, e questo è quello che ho fatto questa mattina.
Nel primo pomeriggio sono andata al cinema a vedere Shadowhunters - Città di Ossa. Mi era piaciuto parecchio il libro dal quale è tratto ed ero curiosa di sapere come fosse venuto fuori. Non è stato male, ma gli ultimi venti minuti erano assurdi: hanno cercato di restare fedeli al libro, ma hanno finito per cambiare più cose di quante ne abbiano salvate!!! Credo non si possa avere tutto dalla vita.. Sono, però, stata contenta abbiano lasciato alcune delle battute più belle!

Ho cenato con Paolo, Marco e Alberto e più tardi ci hanno raggiunto anche Sabri, che è ritornata dal lavoro, Luca, l'ennesima-Claire, un-altro-Luca e loro figlio Antonio. Domani Antonio compie un anno e dato che Paolo è stato loro testimone di nozze e dev'essere anche il padrino del bambino, sono venuti a festeggiare da noi.

Questa sera ho finalmente comprato il mio biglietto aereo per la Nuova Zelanda. Parto il 13 gennaio da Melbourne. Ho anche cominciato a vedere quanto potrebbe costare spostarmi in aereo una volta lì e quasi quasi credo acquisterò i biglietti anche di quegli spostamenti domani..

Day #201

Today with Sabri, Paolo, Marti and Luca I went to Burleigh Heads, on the Gold Coast. 
Luca came to pick us up in the morning and in little short than one hour we'd arrived. It was a glorious day and I swam in the ocean twice :D Water was chilly at first, but then, once you got used to it, it was really pleasant.

Of course we sunbathed, but since it's wintertime - let that sink in - we didn't get too tanned. Or at least, I'm still waiting for the colour to show. On a positive note, we did not get a sunburn either.

In the early afternoon, we also had a little walk on the coastline and on a footpath that took us to a quiet and sheltered bay with crystal clear water! Beautiful to behold, see for yourself!!

We got back fairly early because the day in the sun tired us all and once back in Hamilton, we had Marti over for dinner. Since she's the certified chef among us, we let her pick the menu and cook it as well. We had grilled green prawns, salad and soft cheese to spread on salty crackers. For dessert we had chocolate icecream and between Paolo and I, we got through half of the box - okay, it was mainly me, but whatever! I did not get a huge burger for lunch as these guys did - I wanted to enjoy the water as much as possible, so I decided to have a really light lunch and go back to the ocean a second time! It was worth it!!!

Oggi con Sabri, Paolo, Marti e Luca sono andata a Burleigh Heads, in Gold Coast.
Luca è passato a prenderci questa mattina e in poco meno di un'ora di macchina eravamo a destinazione. Il tempo è stato meraviglioso e ho fatto il bagno nell'oceano due volte! :D L'acqua alla prima impressione sembrava gelata, ma tempo due minuti per abituarcisi ed era della temperatura perfetta!
Naturalmente abbiamo anche preso il sole, ma dato che siamo in pieno inverno - rendiamoci conto, PIENO. INVERNO. - non ci siamo abbronzati più di tanto. O almeno, io sto ancora aspettando che il colore compaia. Da un altro punto di vista però, dobbiamo essere grati di non esserci ustionati!
Nel primo pomeriggio, siamo andati a fare una passeggiata, prima seguendo il profilo della costa, poi seguendo un sentiero che ci ha portato in una baia quieta e appartata dove l'acqua era cristallina! Davvero magnifica! Guardare per credere!!

Siamo tornati a casa abbastanza presto perché dopo una giornata al sole eravamo un po' tutti cotti. Una volta a Hamilton, Marti è venuta a cena da noi e dato che lei era l'unico vero chef tra i presenti, non solo le abbiamo fatto scegliere il menù, ma l'abbiamo anche fatta cucinare! Abbiamo cenato con gamberi grigliati, insalata, formaggio spalmabile e crackers. Come dessert c'era del gelato al cioccolato e tra me e Paolo, ne è andata via quasi mezza confezione - okay, probabilmente ne ho mangiato più io di lui, ma sono dettagli! In fondo io sono l'unica che non si è fatta un burgerazzo a pranzo! Volevo tenermi il più leggera possibile così da potermi godere l'acqua al massimo, quindi ho fatto solo uno spuntino per pranzo e sono andata a fare il bagno una seconda volta! Ne è valsa la pena!!!
