Day #115

This is the reason why I never do anything spontaneously: what if something does go according to the plan? Which plan? You decided just yesterday you were leaving in two days, you do not have a plan. Exactly my point.

By now, even those of you who don't know me personally might have realized I am something of a control freak and even though the adrenaline rush I had yesterday still gets to me sometimes, mainly I am constantly worrying about getting my luggage ready, printing my boarding passes, finding a map of the city, what to do and what to see once in Melbourne.. I am freaking out - in a positive and negative way, at the same time, which is tiring, in case you were wondering.

I am going to bed now because a) I need rest b) it has been a long night at the restaurant c) I need to stop thinking about what I'm forgetting to pack.

Day #114

OMG. I just did something completely crazy and impulsive and in the moment and - have I already mentioned crazy?! I got a ticket to fly to Melbourne this Sunday. Oh my. That is like in two days, since Thursday has already passed for me. Oh my. I can still feel the adrenaline rush that started when I bought the tickets.

How did this come to happen? Okay, so tonight Davina updated the duty roster for next week and I got Monday through Wednesday off. You may also remember that this Sunday I will be off as well, that makes it 4 days off in a row and I'd be a fool to let this opportunity slip in between my fingers. Seize the fleeting moment, they say. Who knows when I have another chance like this one?
Before taking any decision, I double checked with my friend Jess, who used to work in the Maldives with me and lives in Melbourne, whether she'd be free those days to hang around and laugh about old times [speaking of which, one year ago, today, I was leaving Iru Fushi and flying back to Italy]. Not only she managed to get the days off, but she also offered me to stay over at her place! Too nice of hers!!! Gosh, I can't wait to see her again!!! Reminds me of so many good nights on the island with my friends! These four days in Melbourne are going to be AWESOME. I cannot wait!!! Oh my!!!

OMIODDIO. O, mamma. Sento ancora l'adrenalina anche se ho comprato i biglietti tre quarti d'ora fa!
Come è successo? Carpe diem, no?
Gentilissima!! Omioddio, non vedo l'ora di rivederla!! Mi ritornano alla mente così tante fantastiche serate passate coi miei amici sull'isola!!! Questi quattro giorni a Melbourne saranno FANTASTICI. Non vedo l'ora! Sto male.

Day #113

Hi there!!! Writing a really quick post tonight because I gotta sleep!!!
Okay, so I worked at the markets today with Sabrina and Enzo. The latter was demonstrating two recipes for pasta on a stage today, and in the meantime we took care of the stand.
It was a good day, weather was nicer than last week and yes - thank God! - warmer! We still had plenty of pasta left to sell at the end of the day, but I guess that's because Enzo made a little bit too much.
Amanda & Annie, sitting on the floor after having packed their stand up.
As any other Wednesday, I got my pastries from the lovely Amanda and Annie - today I got a petite Red Velvet: yummy! - some fruit and fresh pasta. And several other sweets from other stands spread throughout the market square. In case you were wondering, yes, I do have a sweet tooth.

Adoro i dolci.

Day #112

Day started off pretty early with a Skype call from one of my best friends in my hometown, talked for about an hour and a half before it got too late in Italy and my stomach started growling for breakfast. It's so nice talking to people back home :)

I spent the rest of the day reading and drinking hot beverages - tea, coffee, milk and chocolate.
At six something, Casey and Alex picked me up and the three of us went to the Dendy Cinema down at Portside Wharf to watch The Hangover - Part III.
Of course I was expecting something different from the first two movies, they as much as promised us that. There where some hilarious scenes, but what I liked the most about this one was all the sneaky little - and not so little - references to the previous movies. I liked how they connected them all in this last chapter.
It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, but it was a good way to spend a couple of hours and it's not as if I didn't enjoy some Bradley Cooper on screen - he should have taken off his shirt when asked to, by the way.

Going to bed early tonight as tomorrow the day starts even earlier as I'll be down at the markets to work with Sabrina at the pasta stand.

Day #111

Every once in a while, even I need to take a break from my super exciting life and dedicate myself to more earthly matters such as laundry and vacuuming. And basicaly, that's what I did today.
I Skyped with my friend Greg and got some more movie recommendations, finished watching one of the said movies, hoovered the floors, cleaned my bathroom, did my laundry, cooked and read.
Now I'm going to bed - and it's just 11:30pm - so that I can store as much energy as possible and brace myself for the coming days: tomorrow I'll still be off, but on Wednesday I'll work at the markets and I will have double shift on both Thursday and Saturday.

Not a very interesting post today, but nothing really interesting happened, so, there you go.

Day #110

Oh boy, I just solved with the help of one of my best friends a HUGE trig problem. Never. Again.

Now, of course it wasn't 'huge', but you have to understand I haven't studied trig for nearly two years now - and yes, my life is better because of that; but when my dad asked for my help with a math problem my little sister of 13 had to solve for school - speaking of WHAT THE HECK DO THEY TEACH OUR CHILDREN?!, I couldn't say no.  After realizing it was harder than I remembered and checking the wikipedia page for sine and cosine, I resolved to ask for an engeneer-to-be's assistance, as I wasn't sure of my calculations. Turned out I did alright, but sadly, I'm still not able to use a freaking calc - there you have it why I thought something was wrong! Anyway, now that the math emergency has been called off, I can go and sleep soundly.

Today was a nice day. Weather was glorious, even though it turned chilly during the late afternoon. My duty wasn't too tragic as Davina was there at rush hour and Tony was always willing to help me if I needed anything.
After work, I went with Paolo and Sabrina at the Powerhouse in New Farm to meet up with Luca, Martina and Nicola for drinks. The place was packed and after some beers and chips, we left home-bound to have dinner there.

As I left my laptop unattended after dinner, Paolo and Sabri posted a very funny thing on my facebook timeline, so if you noticed anything that didn't sound like me, well, it wasn't me, then. Ahahah oh my, thank goodness I realized what they had done in time!!! We couldn't stop laughing after that! Those bastards!

Oh mamma.
Quanto abbiamo riso dopo.. Che bastardi, che sono!

Day #109

I want this post to be quick. Challenge accepted.

Today I had double shift at the restaurant, but surprisingly it wasn't too hard or tiring.
Let me explain. First of all, not many people asked for coffees at lunch, so I could focus and make fine ones. Then, at dinner, since I started late - at 7 o'clock, Davina asked me to help her out behind the counter with polishing glasses and cutlery and be a runner. That did the trick, I wasn't stressed at all. I took the food to the tables when it was ready, polished what needed to be polished, cleaned the tables from empty dishes and glasses. Hassle free.
Even Raymond and Bruce, two of our regulars, noticed I was more relaxed this evening, less frantic and stressed - by the way, these are the two gentlemen whose coming I used to dread, because they would ALWAYS get the Chianti basket and there was a time I didn't know how to open the effing bottle. Truth is, they are fun and slightly crazy old men who love their Chianti cold.

Another table asked me to sing Happy Birthday in Italian to them and, well, I did it.

Voglio un post veloce questa sera. Sfida accettata.
