Day #23

I don't know what's happening to me: I always wake up early in the morning even though I have nothing important to do and then feel terribly sleepy in the evening.. Used to be the other way round. Maybe it's all the coffee I'm getting throughout the day. You know, keeps me going till I sit on the bed.

Oh well, today I had some of Enzo's bucatini with plain tomato sauce and man, were they awesome! I might have been really hungry, though.
Then headed downtown together with Claire and Sabri to hand out some more CVs. I actually walked on a different route this time, hopefully that'll work out better.

Karen invited me over for dinner tonight. I brought Ashlee my copy of The Fault in Our Stars - spreading the love, you know. I hope she'll like it. Tony made us fried rice: it was delicious!

Day #22

I apologize for writing close to nothing today, but I'll drop dead asleep on the bed any minute now. It has been such a long day!
I was ready to write something bitter about Queensland, on the line of  'Sunshine State my ass', since the weather forecast said it'd be raining, but it turned out it was indeed sunny and nice. Sometimes I do love to be wrong.

I had a really nice day at the market at Enzo's pasta stand. Got to meet more people and chit chat with half Brisbane. Enzo and my flatmates are starting to realize what a jabber mouth I am, but I'm sure they kind of find it fun. Oh God, ''sure'' is a little pretencious, but I hope they have fun. Otherwise I'll be kicked out twice as fast as expected!

Something funny happened today as I was working: I usually greet and smile to people passing by - in order to get new customers or just out of politeness if they are looking my way. So, when this guy passed close to the stend I smiled and said 'Good afternoon, how are you doing?', he kept walking as he smiled back and answered me and nearly bumped into a lamp pole! Hilarious! I mean, I warned him in time, but still, it was good fun.

Day #21

Nothing much to say about today. The weather sucks these days, but I sincerely hope it will get better. Just for tomorrow, pretty please? I'll be at the market all day and I don't really fancy staying 10hrs under the pouring rain.

Today I went downtown but I didn't hand out any CVs 'cause I was in a rush and.. kind of forget them home. Yeah, I'm actually thinking about getting 'GENIUS' tatooed on my forehead, so that people can know who they're dealing with from distance.

I am currently running out of money - because that's kind of what happens when you need to pay every week for your rent and food and transport and have no income; nothing too serious though.. I won't be hitting the streets for at least another two weeks, but still.. I needed to transfer some money from my account to my prepaid debit card when I almost got locked out of my account because I couldn't remember the effing password. I wonder if it would hurt more on the forehead since there's close to no fat at all.
Thank goodness a friend of mine works in the branch I opened my account with and was able to help me out. I will probably check if it works tomorrow. Now I gotta go to sleep if I want to catch my bus tomorrow morning.

Day #20

So, today I saw the Oscars live, in case you hadn't had a chance to see me fangirling on fb. It was a nice show, I loved the fact that they focused on the importance of music in the film-making industry and that they quoted some of my fav musicals.

I was tense throughout the show because I didn't want to hope too much Jennifer would win the Best Actress in a leading role award, but then she did win!!! I'm so happy! She totally deserved it.
I kind of felt bad for her when she tripped on the stairs on her way up to the stage, but at the same time, I knew, way before the show, she would do something that would make her stand out and that that something would be awkward. That's Jennifer Lawrence for you, folks. I mean, her dress was gorgeous, but deadly to her balance.

So, that's how I spent the day. Waiting for the Oscars to begin, watching the Oscars and then talk about them for the rest of the day. Man, I do need to get a job. The sooner, the better.

ps. this blog reached the first thousand views the other night. Most of them I could explain, for example, those coming from Italy, USA, Germany or UK. What puzzled me, on the other hand, was the South Korean views I'm getting regularly. Hey there, my friend, this is a shout-out to you! Thank you for taking the time to visit and -maybe also- read my blog!! Seeing that the views from South Korea are increasing makes my days!

Sunday 24 February 2013

Day #19

Lazy Sunday. I might start a tradition there, you know.
On my first Sunday in Oz, I was still kind of shaken by the previous afternoon spent at the hospital, but was invited to a bbq, so I actually did something - read: moved my ass from the bed.
As for what concerns last week and today, well, let's say I've been catching up with my favourite TV series (aka The Big Bang Theory and Revenge. Unfortunately Glee will only be back on March 7th. By the way Fox, Y U punishing me?) and reading.
Oh well, here are some more pictures I took on Friday! As you may see, no pictures of me: I look way better on the other end of the camera.

Day #18

I apologize again, today I'm going to write A LOT, but feel free to skip it or just have a look at the pictures I took yesterday.

So, as I mentioned you a couple of days ago, today I worked at the market down at New Farm Park, close to the Brisbane Powerhouse, if if feel like looking it up on Google Maps. I woke up at 4:15am and got on a taxi together with Sabri by 4:40. We found five dollars under one of the seats, so actually the taxy only costed us ten dollars each. Nice.

The early morning went by pretty fast. I was working at Enzo's pasta stand. He's an italian immigrant who has been living in Australia for ages, married to an Australian lady and with 6 children. He's the classic Casanova, if you know what I mean. He has a way of charming people, especially ladies, who constantly show up at the booth just to have a chat with him.

I had fun. I got to meet plenty of different people and even though today it was extremely hot, it was also a very sunny and bright day. You cannot really complain when you get such a sky, you know.. Thank goodness, Sabri came to the rescue with some frozen orange juice to eat!
My job was, of course, selling the fresh pasta, but I had to pack it first. Enzo came in the morning with heavy trays of different kinds of pasta and we had to put it in 500g bags. We sold plenty.
I wouldn't have believed it, hadn't I seen it myself, how many people were shopping between 6 and 7am.

What are you doing out of your bed that early?!? Don't you sleep in the morning?

One of the highlights of the morning, was this guy who complimented me on my smile for like two minutes straight. He wasn't even trying to hit on me, he just said - and kept repeating - that I had a very warm smile and that it made his day. That was really nice to hear. I wish he could tell it to the guy who rejected my application at the Hilton!

By 1 o'clock we were done and had packed everything. Sabri and I were exhausted. We headed back home, but since it wasn't too close to our place, it actually took more than one hour and half to get back. I ate lunch, took a shower and laid down on my bed. I woke up less than two hours later. I was dead tired! My feet are still kind of swollen, but I feel good. Not only because I'll be able to pay the rent for next week to Paolo tomorrow, but also because, all in all, I had a really good day.

When I woke up, I found Sabri and Paolo having an happy hour in the living room with our neighbours Mitsuyo and Nicola. They later invited me to dinner at their place - which is like, upstairs. Mitsu is Martina's flatmate and Nicola is her boyfriend. We had a nice time, she cooked this amazing - I would have never believed it by the looks of it - beef stew, with, well, mushrooms and onions, which I didn't eat, of course, but it tasted soooo good!! Wow! I feel blessed I am surrounded by all these amazing cooks. By the way, guess what Nico does for a living? I'm literally surrounded by cooks. I couldn't starve if I wanted to.

Another awesome thing that happened today, you might not be interested but I freaked out as I saw it, was the freshly released Catching Fire movie poster. Lionsgate is behind it and it looks UH-MAZING. Look for yourself, if you do not trust me.

Day #17

Sorry guys, I'm in a rush! Tomorrow I'll have to wake up at 4:15am, forgive me if I don't write much. Today I went downtown with Claire. We took the ferry. She brought her camera and I took pictures. Will upload them tomorrow, I guess. We went to the Art Gallery in South Bank. I submitted my curriculum to a gift shop downtown. Maybe they'll call me back. I'll let you know. Karen's outside waiting. They invited me to dinner. I gotta go. See you. Bye.

And that is what's called 'stream of consciousness'.

Scusatemi tanto, ma sono molto di fretta. Domani devo svegliarmi super presto.

Day #16

Today the weather sucked. I mean, it was sunny and hot, then it rained, then it was cloudy and after that pouring rain. This is what it must feel to live in Melbourne, where, I've been told, you can get all the seasons in a day.

I met Elena, another one of the Italian friends I mentioned you ages ago, in the City today. We had a walk, a chat and of course a coffee at Starbucks. She explained to me a little about the struggles and the nice things she had since she came here with her boyfriend Nello. She also gave me some more advice and I, in return, talked about me, my life and past experiences - Gosh, I'm so self-absorbed -.-

Wednesday 20 February 2013

Day #15

So I just heard back from the Hilton Brisbane and unfortunately they had to reject my application. That's fine, I'm kind of used to rejections now. I mean, I took it really bad when they told me I hadn't been accepted to Durham University last year, but I guess after that first 'no' everything became less tragic. Life goes on anyway, doesn't it?

On a more positive note, today Sabrina invited me over to the pasta stand she works at every Wednesday at the market in Queen St. She introduced me to Enzo, the owner and pasta maker, and managed to get him to hire me for this Saturday market. I know it's not a lot and that I'll have to wake up at 4am, but it's thousand times better than nothing and I'm so happy she thought of me. She'll be working in the stand opposite mine, selling - wait for it - citrus.

Day #14

Today I went with Karen at the movies. I've been wanting to see Silver Linings Playbook since it won the Toronto International Film Festival in September. I liked it a lot, and so did Karen. Bradley Cooper was amazing! And don't even get me started on Jen Lawrence!

The story itself was kind of sad, especially when you realized that there are families out there dealing with bipolar disorder and mental illness everyday. But the support of loved ones and friends, the hope of a silver lining, made it a really enjoyable movie.
Robert De Niro's character was crazier than his son, but he had his come-here-get-a-hug moments all right. They pulled off the father-son relationship perfectly, it was kind of touching. I might read too much into that, though, I mean, I saw De Niro dancing in a gown and a fan in Stardust the other night, his softness today kind of killed me.

I don't know, it felt so real. They had their bad moments, the good and crazy ones, but they were a family. If you haven't seen it yet, well, I hope you will enjoy it!

Now I'm off to the shopping mall with Sabri. This morning before the movie I wrote down a menu for the week and I'll try to stick to it as much as possible, but first I need to get the groceries.

ps. Paolo e Sabri are spoiling me: he makes me risotto, she bakes me cakes. Shouldn't that be enough, tonight they took me to Milany, this ice-cream cafe in Racecourse Rd. I had banana split and helped Paolo with his 4 pics 1 word game.

Day #13

Doesn't seem like it will stop raining too soon.
Today I spent the day at Karen's. She came and picked me up at 12, then we had lunch with Casey. (She found a job, by the way! I'm so happy for her!) The pasta was really good, I took notes on the preparation of the tomato sauce and will probably test them tomorrow.

I engaged with Casey in a chat about - guess what? - the Hunger Games and I was so shocked to find out she was a Team Gale gal! I mean, ANYBODY could tell you that Peeta is the perfect guy for Katniss, but that was fun anyways.. I got to talk about what I felt this time reading and the excitement for the movie that's coming. But yeah, I was kind of taken aback from the fact she didn't like neither Peeta nor poor Josh Hutcherson!

In the late afternoon, Karen was going through some job searching sites and she found that at the Hilton here in Brisbane they were - and still are - looking for a Guest Service Agent. I nearly dropped dead for the surprise: I had looked up on the same site for over two months when I was still in Italy and last checked on it two weeks ago in London and there was no open position suitable for me then!!!
Anyway, better this way. It hasn't been on the site too long, I'm already here and ready to start working anyday and now I'm really letting my hopes rise too much, I gotta stop!

Karen and Tony insisted I had dinner with them as well, so here I am! Gosh, will I ever stop owing them?

ps. I forgave Casey's preference for Gale as soon as she mentioned you can have sambuca here in Oz. I thought it was an italian thing, but I'm glad I was wrong. Now Casey must think I'm a sambuca addict who's a sucker for sappy romance.

Day #12

Sorry for the uneventful day, but there's really nothing worthy to be reported.

I cried all my tears over Mockingjay and as soon as that was over, I felt the urge to start reading it all again from scratch. I guess I'll wait another couple of months, maybe I can read it before the next movie comes out..

Claire came back today from Cairns. She said she had a great time! Good for her - I'm stealing all the contacts she had for organizing each and every tour, you never know..

Day #11

And yet another day spent with Sabrina! :D I like spending time with her and getting to know Brisbane bit by bit, but I'm afraid she might be getting fed up with babysitting me! We went to the market in West End and then walked back to Queen Street - in case you're wondering, the market is way outside this map. In short we did lots of walking.

We met up with Eva, a friend of Sabrina and had breakfast with her. I kind of sort of woke up late today and had no time for anything, so I got a latte down at the market and another one at this cafe together with a croissant. Eva and Sabri got eggs, so I didn't feel too guilty about the marmelade on it.

In Queen St. I bought a dress, because a) here's hot and b) I don't want to buy a suit for interviews, should they come.. It's green! Beautiful!

Today I first met Martina too. She's one of my neighbours, she lives upstairs and is a cook, like most people around here! She baked apple cake, one of my favourite, and gave some to us to share. At first I didn't know she was a chef, but I complimented her on the BEAUTY of the cake right away! It was really pretty for a cake and it tasted awesome!

This afternoon I walked around Hamilton handing out CVs in the hotels/motels of the neighbourhood.. Hopefully some will get back to me.. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Paolo and Sabri are out for a pizza at the restaurant where Claire works, they invited me to join them, but since they did not get a proper Valentine's day and all, I thought I'd just better stay home with my dear laptop and pdf of Mockingjay.

Day #10

Yesterday I was up till late to finish a book. I was reading a pdf on my laptop, laying in my bed, and I'm afraid I might have stayed in the wrong position for far too long, because when it came to going to sleep my tailbone ached like crazy. Even worse, finding out this morning that the pain hadn't gone away during the night!

The day turned better right away when I found out that Sabri had made me breakfast: pancakes and strawberries - Paolo did the berries sauce yesterday at the restaurant and he kindly shared it with us. Useless to say, they were delicious!

Surfing the net later, I found out two awesome pieces of news that shocked me - in a nice way: first of all, John Green and his wife are expecting another baby - yay! I know you don't care about it, but had you seen Henry, their first child, you'd be looking forward to welcome a new Green baby to the world. Jee, I do sound crazy, sometimes; and second freaking Mr. President knows the slang we use in Nerdfighteria! OMG! He pretty much said DFTBA in front of the whole Internet. That is just awesome!

On the bus, as we were going downtown, we bumped into this italian guy, whose name we didn't care too much to find out. He asked us a couple of questions, you know 'how long have you been here?' 'what do you do?', stuff along that line, and when Sabri told him she had been working in the farms picking up mainly citrus, he asked her what she meant by that.
The look Sabrina and I exchanged behind our sunglasses said a lot about what we think of people who specify that the italian region they come from is situated in the centre of Italy, but ignore the simple concept of 'citrus'. Whatevs

Have I already mentioned I would have had my CVs printed today? Well, I'll say it now. Sabri and I went to the library and had some printed out but I didn't go and hand them out this afternoon because it was pouring rain!

Day #9

Happy Valentine's y'all! (That's Texan, not Australian, by the way)
Today I spent the day with Sabrina. Paolo has been working all day: among his import/export/life-coach job he's also a chef, and tonight he'll be downtown helping out in the kitchens of some fancy restaurant.

What Sabri and I did was heading to the City, looking around in the shops - I can't afford to use money untill I start earning some so we just ''looked'' - and then having a lovely walk in South Bank. But man, was it hot! Thank goodness there was a little wind, otherwise I believe I would have melted!

Anyway, she didn't spend Valentine's day with her Valentine, but with a Valentina, which, I do understand, is kind of a downer, BUT we had pancakes and girl bonding time. Could have been a lot worse. I do feel bad for her who got stuck with me for the day, though.

Oh well, I did text Paolo suggesting he should get her something, in case he hadn't thought of that. He thanked me, so maybe I did something good!

Sabri is fun.. ahaha we laughed so much when she freaked out because of a frog in the driveway, especially after realizing it was just a toy! I had a good time and tried to get her cooking secrets by asking questions and observing her preparing her meal - I do try to learn as much as I can in our kitchen and in Karen's because I'm not that good and I need to improve. I cooked some killer breadcrumbed chicken today, though. And that's when I realized I loved myself.

Buon San Valentino!

Day #8

One week ago I was landing at Brisbane International Airport.

I went to the library here in Hamilton today. Unlike in the Maldives, I brought here with me only my copy of The Hunger Games and the recently acquired The Fault in Our Stars. Useless to say I've finished them both, and in need of something else. Of course I'm already working on the pdf of Catching Fire, but that doesn't really make up for paper and ink.

Besides at the library I'll be able to print out my CVs - which clearly I've postponed doing till now. Claire says I'm doing all right, that I'm completely on schedule and that I can afford to spend these afternoons reading like a mad woman - ok, she didn't exactly say that.

I might also start a food calendar like my gran does every summer, just to be sure I do not buy too much stuff and let it rotten.. I'll let you know how that goes.

Vi faccio sapere come va a finire.

Day #7

Still making up my mind on whether I'll post day by day as I did when I was in the Maldives or only when something relevant happens in my life.
I know for a fact that my Gran is checking everyday this page, and I don't want to disappoint her not writing anything, but at the same time I'm afraid it'd be a disappointment to read that nothing special happened to me on that day. I feel this pressure on me, as if you are all expecting me to live a different adventure whenever I step out of the threshold. Maybe I'm overthinking as usual.

Sorry, no adventures in the trip to the bank.

Well, anyway, today Claire left for one week vacation. She'll be spending the next six days up in Cairns, where she'll camp in the jungle, snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef and do some other stuff.. In the meantime I'll stay home, look for a job - I already sent some CVs through the Web, but so far I can tell I only made it to the first selection process.

Today I also had dinner with Paolo and Sabrina - you already know Paolo from Saturday, Sabrina is his girlfriend. I ate so much I feel sick to the stomach. Classic.

Also, I am addicted to jasmine green tea and good books.

Day #6

There's a downside in having to take care of one's food and you're just on your own. I mean, doesn't take more than one trip to the department store to figure out they don't have mono-serving things which necessarily means you have to eat the same thing for two consecutive days. Yay.

Thank God I've been too sick on Saturday to eat and invited over a bbq on Sunday, otherwise I would have had to engage my brilliant mind in the puzzle that preparing a meal is here in Australia. I might head to Racecourse Rd - which is the main road here in Hamilton - later and get something for the next few days.

This morning anyway I went first to the hospital, I just had to drop some "stuff" for further tests, then I got on the wrong bus and ended up in Stafford, which, in case you were wondering, is not the in city centre where I was supposed to be.
In my defense, I will say that before going out I checked on the Internet which bus to take.. it was his fault if he was terribly misleading in the information! Well, anyway from the last stop I took the bus going the opposite direction and got exactly where I wanted to. Downtown I also got my Medicare, so next time I feel fainting and head in a rush to the hospital, at least I will have something officially Australian to present.

*later, as in after doing the shopping*
In case you are interested, I bought chicken breasts (of course couldn't buy just one so now I have two), tuna cans, eggs (I could choose between the 12 or 6 pack, guess what I went for?), and Kraft singles.

I had so much fun *sarcasm intended* cutting the chicken in slices and chopping what I was to lazy to slice. I have a stale piece of bread I'm totally going to grate to get some to breadcrumb whatever comes handy.

And now that I explained to you how I will get fat, we can move on to the next subject. I think I might puke the omelette I just cooked. It almost tasted as bad as Malaysia Airlines' did!!!
I will go and hide in shame.

Vado a nascondermi.

Sunday 10 February 2013

Day #5

Today I got my antibiotics and then I spent the afternoon at Karen and Tony's.

Ashlee's boyfriend will be moving to Canberra in a week and since Tony will be off to Japan for the next 10 days, they decided to have a barbecue farewell party and invited me too because they're just too nice.

At the bbq came two friends of Karen, Colin and his wife Ryley (might be spelled with an ''i''), who will be leaving in a couple of weeks for a 12 months trip around Australia on their caravan. Wow, even crazier than what I did!

I had a really good fun, I laughed a lot and generally felt a whole lot better than I did yesterday.
Plus, Casey gave me some more suggestions on job searching whilst Ashlee said she might take me with her next time she goes to K-mart to buy some nice dresses.
The whole family has been so lovely and kind to me. I am indeed very very lucky.

L'intera famiglia è stata così gentile e accogliente con me. Sono davvero molto molto fortunata.

Day #4

First of all: do not panic. Ever. Not while you're reading this, nor even in your everyday life. Panic gets everything worse. I found it out today, when I was heading to the hospital. Don't freak out just yet!

Around 2pm I started feeling dizzy and light-headed, not to mention inexplicably cold and about to faint. I went to the bathroom, but it didn't get better, on the other hand I caught sight of myself in the mirror and I saw somebody that had my same features but the wrong colours: I looked terribly pale and my lips were an eerie white.

I also tried to lie down, but that didn't help me either.

I went to Paolo, the owner of the flat I'm living in, and told him I wasn't feeling good. He got me straight to the hospital. It was 3pm when I got there, and long story short: after breathing in a plastic bag, peeing in a plastic container, being treated by Dr. Hutcherson - I mean, his name was Anderson and but the looks he had very little in common with the American actor, getting antibiotics through IV, I was dismissed. 7pm.

Apparently I have an infection, but it's no Internet concern. It's treatable and I will survive it, in case someone was already placing bets.

I was just so scared, I panicked and got the whole thing a lot worse. I hyperventilated (literally, this time) which only made my stomachache worse which just made me panic even more.

So, what's the bottom-line? Try not to panic.

Io l'ho scoperto a mie spese oggi mentre andavo all'ospedale.

Friday 8 February 2013

Day #3

What is wrong with me? I mean, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon it looks like I might fall asleep any minute and then at 1am I'm as awaken and jolly as can be. It is kind of annoying.

As I mentioned yesterday, today I spent my day with Karen. She picked me up at my place and came with me to the bank to open my bank account, then she invited me to have lunch at her place where I met Ashlee and Casey, her daughters, and Casey's boyfriend. She baked me pizza and let me tell you, it was not bad at all.. I mean, I was afraid she might use ketchup sauce instead of plain tomato base, because I mean, that's the kind of stuff we Italians expect from other people, but it turned out to be the latter! I should trust people more.

In the afternoon we went to a shopping mall to get a sim card for my cell phone and after we got back to the house, Tony (Karen's partner) came home. He cooked for us dinner, a fine risotto with chicken and peas, and then he seasoned salad with lemon and sugar: again, I wouldn't have given it a penny, but it was incredibly pretty fine!!

After dinner we headed to Mt. Coot-tha, where there's a lookout on the city. It was beautiful! Brisbane is huge! There were citly lights all around and Karen and Tony showed me different places from up there. Not to mention that they gave me a briefing on the most important constellation I could see. I only wished it wouldn't have been that chilly on top of the hill - because, despite the name, it wasn't a real mountain.

Thursday 7 February 2013

Day #2

I got sunburnt on my nose. I'm a genius.
Despite the occasional two-minutes rain episodes we had this morning, Brisbane today was in general hot, humid and sunny. But of course I would have never guessed I'd get a sunburn for that! Most of the time I was in the shades or under some shelter!
I mean, even Claire, my hometown girl whom I share the room with, wondered how in the world I got burnt! Guess I didn't get maldivian skin afterall last year.

So anyway, today Claire was off and kindly showed me the neighbourhood (still trying to figure out whether I'm typing in British or American English) and the bus stops I'll need the most in the next few weeks. Then in the afternoon she took me downtown, showed me the main streets and had a walk with me to the South Bank.

This afternoon I had such a bad case of sleepiness that we headed to a Starbucks in a hurry to get me some coffe to wake me up. I guess it worked, but I'm not sure whether it's still the coffee or the jet lag that keeps me going now that it's a quarter past midnight.

All in all, I had a very good day, but my face kinda hurts.
Tomorrow I'll be hanging out with Karen. She's so lovely, she wants to help me too. I seriously love nice people.

Quick catch-up: Karen is the main reason why I picked Brisbane over any other city in Oz. (By the way, am I the only one that finds absurd that Australia is often referred to as Oz. I mean, am I the only one that thinks straight to Dorothy, the Wonderful Wizard and FREAKING WICKED - the musical was awesome, in case you were wondering - ?)
So as I was saying, I met Karen and her partner Tony back in September and when they offered to help me on my first days in Australia I jumped on the opportunity. I booked my flight in and only later found out about the crazy connections I already talked to you about.

Day #1

Not sure if it is indeed 'day one', I mean I'm still in KL. I'm not arrived to my final destination yet, but technically here it is already Feb 6th, the day I'll first set foot on Australian territory, so I guess I can call it that way.

So, I took the sleeping drops on the flight from London to here and they kind of worked, I mean, I have complete blanks of what happened after I had lunch, or after I watched a couple of episodes of The Big Bang Theory - gotta love Malaysia Airlines for featuring it! - so I guess I was unconciously fast asleep.

I landed half an hour ago, and there's still some time before I'll have to board for the next plane. So far I'm loving what I'm seeing of KLA - which is not much, admittedly, but there's wood and glass and shiny pavements and lights and I'm loving it; but most of all I'm enjoying free WIFI connection! Damn it! Why Milan should have you pay for it when here they give it to you for free?!?

Anyway, I'm almost through TFiOS. I'm saving it for taking offs and landings because the videos don't work then. I understand what John told us on Sunday.
He wanted his book to be funny; everyone can tell you that it is not. Quoting his wife Sarah: it is really sad. To be honest, I was laughing while I had tears streaming down my cheeks. See, I couldn't refrain tears because of the tragedy of it all, but at the same time it was impossible to contain a laughter. I guess it is a little funny, after all.
People sitting next to me must have thought I had some personality disorder.

Oh, looks like we're boarding.
I need a shower ASAP. I'll probably write to you guys tomorrow (as in Feb 7th). I will land in Brisbane at 8pm local time and I'm planning to enjoy this very long shower and then get some real, not-drops-induced sleep.

Ps. Beware the omelette you're served  while on board.

-1 day

Third day in London and it hasn't rained yet!

So, today I decided to go to Paddington Station to get familiar with the route I'll have to take tomorrow in order to catch the train that'll bring me to Heathrow. Doesn't seem to complicated, but since I'll be travelling peak time, I'm afraid it is going to be a hell of a lot more difficult. Oh well. I'll let you know if I miss the plane. Just kidding. I have no intention to miss it!

After that, I decided to head towards the Millennium Bridge, because Harry Potter rules. I couldn't take any picture because my camera still doesn't work, but you have to trust me, the view was amazing: San Paul was shining under the sunlight!

Once crossed the Thames I decided to visit the Tate Modern museum, I had time to kill anyway so.. It was nice, they had various expositions, but I only visited three of them. I got an audioguide and took me a while and some wandering pretending to be listening to it, before really getting how to use it.
Problems with technology apart, I saw plenty of things I had studied in my last year of high school.

In the afternoon I went to my favourite place in London: Kensington Gardens. I wanted to have a look at the Diana, the memorial playground, but of course - I should have thought of that - it was closed for adults without children. So I strolled for a bit, then I just sat on a bench and started reading from my new signed copy of TFiOS. On my way back, I went by the Peter Pan statue.

Yep, this pictures were taken last September. Try to imagine the grass greener and the trees completely bare, that's pretty much how it looked like today.

-2 days

Second day in London.
This blog entries are starting to get way too long. Problem is that one day in London feels like one week!

Attention: this post might be too awesome to handle.
In short, today I managed to lose my self and find my way again - not so awesome, I agree - see John and Hank Green IRL and get The Fault in Our Stars signed by both (Hank signed with an anglerfish) sing along with hundreds of other fans about Harry Potterquarks and how weird the universe is, listen to John answering even more questions about his book, fangirl over pretty much anything, meet my friend Sarah at the O2 Arena and visit Greenwich University - where, by the way, Thor 2 was shot.

Now, you'll probably be itching for pictures.. I know I'd be, I mean, I really would have loved to take one or two pictures of the Green brothers or just have some memories of my afternoon with Sarah. Fact is that my camera today decided to disappoint me and simply not even turn on.
What concerns me is that if the camera still doesn't work after I try to re-charge its battery again, I might have to buy a new one. Wouldn't it bug you?

Well, I won't let a stupid little thing like a camera spoil my excitement for the day. The event at the Cadogan Hall was awesome! I had a great time. John and Hank were amazing as usual, New York Times' best seller author Maureen Johnson was there with them too to ask them questions from the audience. John got to slap his brother on stage and he did sing too: I kind of feel privileged since he only did that at Carnegie Hall last month, and apparently yesterday at Swindon and probably on the other dates of the tour as well. Still. I loved it and felt special any less.

What made me smile, even though it might sound creepy, was that once sitting, two people hanging with their group of friends in the row in front of mine noticed that I was there alone and offered me a hug to make me feel less alone. I'm sure most of you won't understand, but that's just classic among Nerdfighters, I guess.
They asked us to record a 'DFTBA' - Don't Forget To Be Awesome - message while doing the Nerdfighters' gang sign, hopefully it won't be used against me in the future.

I had good fun with Sarah. First we went to the O2 Arena to eat - mind, it was already 3pm. I got a burger because I was starving, by the end of it I couldn't think of eating anything else for hours. Later we visited her campus in Greenwich. It was really lovely! She told me exactly where Sam Hemsworth had been standing and then we watched people freeing flying lanterns in the sky!

Once back at the hostel I skyped with my family and my family-in-Portland. I was just finished with it when a guy came in the room and told me quite rudely that I was in his bed. Turned out someone at the reception had messed up the booking and now I'm typing from the top bed - Kind of liked it more in the bottom one, though. See you!

First day in London. And let me say it: what a day!
It started off with my flight, of course. But that was nothing, really. All went smoothly even though  sometimes the plane made some funny noises that kind of made me chill.

All good in the airport too. See, today I landed at Heathrow Terminal 5, but since on Tuesday I will be flying out from Terminal 4. Now, since I didn't want to drag around London my super-heavy checked-in luggage, I thought of dropping it at Ter 4 to accelerate everything on my leaving day. What happened is that the bus I took to transfer from one terminal to the other felt like a roller-coaster! Gosh, it turned always so swiftly and suddenly that I could hardly manage my two ginormous bags. Nearly fell once.

Once I got to the right terminal I went straight to the Luggage Drop Off Office and this indian guy just told me that I wasn't in the right place. That the freaking machine to wrap-up luggage wasn't working and that I had to go to the office upstairs. What I did, then, was going upstairs with all my bags and ask the other guy in the other office. He told me I had to store everything in the office at the groundfloor and for the second time I had to take my not-so-ligh suitcase downstairs.

I managed eventually to drop my suitcase, in case you were wondering and from there I got back to Heathrow Central where I could get on the tube.
My luck seemed to have come around when I saw this really cute guy sitting across from me- kind of reminded me of Jonathan Rhys Meyers, but even cuter. So, as I was saying, I was listening to my iPod when I noticed that he'd taken out his cellphone. I turned off the music because I wanted to hear his sexy british accent when he started speaking guess what - Italian! What a bummer! ahah

Cute guy aside, I got down at South Kensington thinking of taking the Circle or District line towards Sloane Square - to get my freaking JOHN GREEN TICKET!!!
Lately Circle and District have been closed on Sundays, and guess what - this weekend they closed it on Saturday too. Awesome, isn't it?

And why did they close it, you may wonder? Because some college students decided to show their support to New Zealand by parading in funny costumes while drinking beer all around the City!
Long story short.. after a long walk and a couple of different buses I got my ticket and at ten to five, GMT, I got to the hostel.

First thing I did as I got here was turning on my laptop. It was late, I didn't really feel like eating or going out at all.. So I just hung out in the kitchen where I can type while sitting straight - I won the lowest bed on a bunk of three.

Stavo già dando sui nervi, a quel punto.

Va be, tizio carino a parte.

-4 days

Despite the fact that "-4 days" is mentioned, it looks like I'm leaving tomorrow for London..

I am so not ready in-a-sort-of-way.. Gosh, why do I have so many issues with the luggage?! Have I already told you I can't stand packing..? Truth is, it's half past 11pm and I am not done yet, I can't believe it: I bring procrastination to a whole new level.

Anyway, had a lovely dinner at my Gran's place tonight. Mom called it ''Our Last Supper'', she might have exaggerated just a little there..

Turning off my laptop now. Guess I'll catch up with you in London.
