Day #25

Something funny happened today. It wouldn't have happened if I had read the signs. I should have read the signs.

The signs:
- a friend of mine telling me an indie rock band would have been in Brisbane these days.
- young people dressed up funny, wrapped in plastic ponchos to protect themselves from the rain, all marching in the same direction, like moth going towards the light. They looked more like jellyfish, though, with the wind blowing under their plastic capes and the water all over.
- an actual luminous sign that indicated a musical event not too far from where I live.

Now, what happened is that, when setting on my way home from South Bank, where I had been handing out CVs under the pouring rain, I found myself on the bus platform together with a huge group of young people buzzing around, looking weird, possibly drunk, all waiting for the buses to arrive. As I saw mine coming my way I headed towards it, only to realize that all the crazy people on the platform were following me. Creepy right? They weren't following me, of course, but I still had no idea where they were heading to and they kind of scared me. The bus was packed and inevitably one guy sat next to me. ''Are you taking this bus to go to the future?'' he asked me. Mind, I was wearing my earplugs listening to Mumford & Sons, I did not want to speak to the weirdos in the bus and as soon as he asked me about going to the future I thought 'Man, this guy is so freaking high he thinks he's in Back to the Future'. I was even more scared by then and answered him with a sharp no, then put my earplugs back on and dug for my book in my bag. He exchanged some words with his friends and then moved to another seat.

The rest of the ride was even weirder. Another guy came sitting next to me, but he did not attempt to start a conversation, which I appreciated; but the choirs in the back of the bus, the singing and whistling and shouting, they kind of sent shivers down my spine. As the plastic cloaked people didn't seem to get off the bus, I did one plus one and figured out they might be headed to the same place the jellyfish were going. Shoot! That'd be my bus stop, I realized. I was right, and I deliberatly chose a side road to go back home - I'd already had enough.

Once home, Sabrina confirmed me that a music festival called - wait for it - Future was going on in the park at the top of Nudgee Rd. That was when the guy's question on the bus got sense! He asked me whether I was going to the concert too! ahah He probably got offended I said I wasn't going and decided to change seat because I might spoil his good mood. Had I known better, I might have engaged him in a conversation about how lucky he was and how jealous I was, how I had just got to Brisbane and wouldn't have had enough money for the ticket anyway.
Oh, well, tomorrow I'll check what is going on in Brisbane before going out or talking to strangers on the bus.

Oggi è successo qualcosa di assurdo. Naturalmente nulla sarebbe capitato se avessi letto i segnali. Avrei dovuto leggere i segnali.

I segnali:

Ne avevo fin sopra i capelli.
