Day #162

Typing from my room in Hamilton, QLD. I got back from Sydney tonight at around 8pm.
Today was a quieter day. I took my time in checking out from the hostel: I slept in - I allowed myself to wake up at 8:30 instead of setting my alarm at 7am as I did the previous couple of days; took a shower, enjoyed breakfast, packed everything, checked one last time the timings for my train to the airport and then left.

I visited Newtown. A suburb that once was very alike Fitzroy, VIC, but now, despite keeping the status of hipster district with its retro shops and peculiar restaurants and bars, is far cleaner and definetely not as shabby as the latter.

I had a savoury crêpe for lunch and basically I think I overdid it, getting also a slice of banana bread in another café. In both places, I sat far longer than it took me to finish my meals because I didn't really feel like dragging my handluggage for a whole day like I did on Sunday and besides I was too caught up into Tess of the d'Urbervilles to put it down!

When I set to leave for the airport, I found myself at some Godforsaken train station where they had just one selling machine that accepted only cash - and I was 60 cents short in order to buy my ticket! I had to beg a stranger that luckily was passing that way. In case you were wondering, yes, it was embarassing. And no, there weren't any ATMs in the neighbourhood.

The flight back to Brisbane went all right, but we landed with some twenty minutes delay because someone is clearly having an hard time managing the air traffic in Brisbane Airport. Tony was nice enough to come and pick me up!

I just remember a small anecdote I forgot to share with you the other day. Sunday afternoon, after my heart skipped a beat at the sight of the Sydney Harbour, I found myself wandering through The Rocks, and I might have had a funny expression painted on my face because one policewoman asked me whether I needed any help. ''Oh, I'm just taking it all in,'' I answered her.

Perché ogni volta scrivo così tanto?!?! Devo volermi proprio male!!!
